In Love with Nahita!

9/14/2018

We are beyond excited for this new culinary addition to our beautiful Boston. Nahita  (100 Arlington St) took over former Liquid Art House and it is part of the international food and beverage company d.ream. It is inspired by Fenix, a Latin American and Asian fusion restaurant, one of Pamela's favorite restaurants in Istanbul, in fact both Nahita and Fenix share the same interior design concept (you will fall in love with the jungle-esque wallpaper near the bar). The tall marble columns, high ceilings and hip bar makes you stay there all night long. Still, the highlight of the visit was the exquisite and delectable dishes. Chef extraordinaire, Efe Onoglu presented us with the most delicious food that we have had in our entire life. And, to top it off they had a plate that included CHICHARRON!

We started our culinary journey with the Cebiche sampler. The presentation was perfection. The plates were rich in color and the flavors transported us to Peru. The Fluke cebiche had sweet potato, red onion, cilantro and lime. The Blue Fin Tuna Nikkei (Pamela's favorite) had a delicious Dashi-Ponzu sauce that accentuated the fresh and heavenly taste of the fish. Finally, the yellow chili pepper leche de Tigre (citrus-based marinade) with the Hamachi cebiche had the perfect level of spicy we needed to start the night. ;)

Now, who doesn't like Tacos? Chef Efe Onoglu outdid himself with the selections of Tacos. The Spicy King Crab tacos were mouthwatering, it was perfectly combined with the crispy Taro Root shell. We both love vegetarian options, so we also had the Zucchini Blossom tacos, they are a must! One of the things we like the most is that the tortillas from the tacos at Nahita are made with organic heirloom corn from Oaxaca, Mexico. NO GMOS!

Did you think we were done eating?
Paying homage to Chicharron, we had the Berkshire Pork Belly Chicharron. The presentation was pure excellence and on top of the pork belly it had delicious and crispy chicharrones. Then, we devoured the succulent Octopus Anticucho with salsa criolla.
Finally, we had the Blue Fin Otoro, extremely fresh and brought directly from Japan and the Blue Fin Tuna Sashimi. The Sashimi was served with a savory Tosajoyu dipping sauce that made our mouths water.
The cherry on top! The delicious Chocolate Soufflé with an exquisite passion fruit sauce. A must to finish your night!

It was a pleasure to be able to enjoy all the fascinating flavors and magnificent dishes that Nahita has to offer. We cannot wait for you guys to try it!
Many thanks to the amazing Executive Chef Efe Onoglu and the courteous and talented team at Nahita!

FALLING IN LOVE WITH INDIA

5/29/2018

Last month I had the pleasure of visiting one of the most beautiful countries in the world. There are so many things to fall in love with in India. The people are so loving and kind, the food is so fresh and rich in flavor and every mosque and temple will transport you into ancient times.
I will provide you with my favorite spots in India and if one day you visit this magical place I hope you follow my recommendations.
The first thing I did when landing was going for breakfast at the Leela Hotel (near the Delhi airport). It was the most spectacular breakfast my eyes have seen. You could basically eat until you passed out. They had all types of breakfasts, Indian, Chinese and American.
Following my huge breakfast, it was time to check in the hotel and rest. I stayed at the Leela Hotel in the diplomatic enclave in New Delhi. Out of all the hotels I've visited in the world, the Leela outshines them with their service, decor, cleanliness and sophistication.

Where to grab a cocktail?

1)The Library Bar at The Leela Palace
2)NOI Bar at The Chanakya Mall (the most luxurious mall in New Delhi)
3)Cirrus9 at the Oberoi Hotel

Where to eat?
1)Indian Accent (exquisite)
2)Kainoosh at the Promenade Mall (best Indian flavors)
3)MKT at The Chanakya Mall (so many choices)
4)Blue Room at the Taj
5)Bukhara at the Maurya Hotel
6) Uncultured (great ambience!)
7) Threesixty at the Oberoi Hotel

Where to fiesta?
1) PCO (hands down the best spot. Great drinks, music and people).
2)Kitty Su
3)Privee

Incredible Places to Visit

1.The Lotus Temple (Bahá’í House of Worship)
Among the numerous recognizable landmarks which are scattered all around Delhi is the remarkable Lotus Temple. Designed in the shape of a sacred lotus flower, there are 27 flower petals which are constructed of marble and make up the structure.

Picture
2. Jama Masjid

It was the during the Islamic Mughal empire when many of Delhi’s famous ancient sites were constructed. In the heart of Old Delhi, located right at Chawri Bazar and very close to Chandni Chowk is the largest Islamic mosque in the city, Jama Masjid. It’s a huge structure, built in the 17th century, and includes multiple entrances that all lead to the main worship deck. The mosque has two towering minarets and a few onion shaped domes. The giant expanse on the upper floor has a capacity to hold 25,000 people.
Picture
3. Akshardham Temple

This modern Hindu temple complex, which was built in 2005, is one of the things to do in Delhi that you don’t want to leave out seeing. Akshardham, with its elaborate architecture, construction, and its ridiculous amount of detail and decoration will blow your mind.
Picture
4.  Gurudwara Bangla Sahib (Sikh Temple)
Unlike the uneasy feeling of visiting Jama Masjid (where someone always seems to be asking for money and your shoes are likely to get stolen if you leave them somewhere), the Gurudwara Bangla Sahib Sikh Temple is about the friendliest, most inviting, and comfortable temple you’ll ever visit. You just leave you shoes safely in the deposit room and walk around the temple. Women must cover their hair...the wind blew mine away and I was about to get lynched.
Picture

5.   India Gate
The well respected India Gate is a 42 meter tall monument that was built in 1931 to honor Indian soldiers as a war memorial. Under the gate you can see a flame that’s continually lit and honors soldiers that have given their lives for their country.

Picture
6. Qutub Minar

Among all the historical things to do in Delhi, the Qutub Minar is what I enjoyed most. Along with a bunch of crumblings structures is the incredible 72.5 meter minaret that sort of looks like the Leaning Tower of Pisa. The minaret is the tallest in all of India, and it was originally built nearly 1,000 years ago.
7. Humayun’s Tomb
Persian designed, the tomb was built in the mid 1500’s to house the Islamic Mughal emperor known as Humayun. Along with Humayun, there are quite a few other Mughal rulers whose graves are also within the building.
Picture
8. Red Fort

The Red Fort in Delhi, known as Lal Qila, is a red sandstone Mughal fortress of walls that surrounds an entire ancient city. Once you get inside the gate, you’ll be able to freely walk around and view some of the main structures, halls, and mosques. Along with being a place to learn and see the history of Delhi, it’s also just a quiet place to get away from the crowds and noise outside the walls. However, if you visit Agra, please go to the Agra Fort, I thought it was more impressive than the Red Fort in Delhi.
9. And of course...The Taj Mahal
An ivory-white marble mausoleum on the south bank of the Yamuna river in the Indian city of Agra. It was commissioned in 1632 by the Mughal emperor, Shah Jahan, to house the tomb of his favourite wife, Mumtaz Mahal. It should be on everyone's bucket list.
Picture
TIPS:
I did not get sick in my visit to India. But make sure to always drink bottled water, wear sunscreen, take your malaria drugs and spray yourself with repellent.  Also, always walk with someone...I had tons of people taking pictures of me. I hope those pictures don't end up in a XXX website.

NAMASTE!

Last Thursday, Chicharron and Caviar had the pleasure of attending the grand opening of the Bulgari boutique located at 14 Newbury St. The facade of the boutique it's like nothing else in the city, sensuality and luxury are perceived even before entering the boutique. The event was hosted by Daniel Paltridge, president of Bulgari North America and Megan O'Block, author and Fashion Council Chair at The Museum of Fine Arts.

The attendees were delighted by the detail and sophistication that architect Peter Marino accomplished. There were Bulgari jewelry pieces all around the boutique. And in the middle of the boutique, tables made out of lavish white travertino navona stone. We were not sure if we liked the jewelry or the furniture pieces the most.
Picture
Event and mixologist extraordinaire Alejandro Alvarez from The Event Society made sure that everyone had an amazing evening of champagne, shopping and socializing. We must say that we had the best Aperol Spritz and Roman inspired hors d'oeuvres in the city.
The best part of the evening was that 10% of the net sales benefitted The Museum of Fine Arts. It ALWAYS feels good to shop for a good cause!

“Think and wonder, WONDER and think”- Dr. Seuss

11/23/2017

The 4th annual fundraising gala for the Boston Children's Museum "The Wonder Ball" was held this past weekend. More than 420 guest attended, raising over $600,000 in  critical funds to benefit the children of Boston. WIth the help of everyone this organization “raises funds to ensure NO CHILD is denied the opportunity to visit the Museum due to economic, physical, or developmental challenges”.

The Boston Children’s Museum was founded in 1913 by teachers interested in innovative learning opportunities. Boston Children’s Museum has become one of the most influential museums in the world, internationally recognized in creating and developing foundational skills that instill a lifelong incentive of learning. The museum exhibits and programs, emphasize hands-on engagement and learning through experience, using “play” as the tool to spark the inherent creativity, imagination and curiosity of children. Designed for children and families, the museum’s exhibits, activities, and programs focus on science, culture, literacy, environmental awareness, health & fitness, and the arts. This museum is also one of the few in the world to maintain a collection of over 50,000 artifacts from all over the world.

The Wonder Ball transformed the museum into a beautiful and enchanted venue. For this black tie event, the ladies attended with gorgeous gowns while the gentlemen wore graceful tuxedos. The trends that we liked the most were sequins for both men and women, and backless gowns such as the one the stunner Dr. Jenny Fitzsimmons wore. In the tented area of the venue we enjoyed taking photos with our friends at the photo booth and got tipsy with Mr. Walker at the Scotch Lounge. During the marvelous seated dinner, the gala’s co-chairs were introduced and they continued to raise funds for this wonderful cause. Following the dinner, we headed down to end the night eating desserts, drinking vodka soda’s and dancing, laughing and feeling joyous for being able to contribute to this important cause.

We would like to thank our friends Aisha Al Riyami, Al Wadhah Al Adawi, Julie Gordon and Phillip Gordon for being phenomenal gala chairs to such important event. Their unconditional love and support for institutions like the Boston Children’s Museum inspires us everyday to be kind and thankful individuals.

Caviar takes a trip to Cartagena "La Fantastica"

11/17/2017

Colombia, a country filled with colorful and rich culture. It is Caviar’s favorite destination. Last week I visited the homeland and would like to share with you my go-to’s and things to do in Cartagena, a city declared a World Heritage by the Unesco.

How to get there:

Delta, American, United, Jet Blue and Avianca. Do not fly with Copa Airlines or Spirit Airlines. You will regret it.

Sight seeing:

The San Felipe de Barajas Castle
San Pedro de Claver Church
The Popa Convent
Visit the Gold Museum, Clock Tower and El Portal de Los Dulces (great place to try local sweets)
Walk around the walled city, plazas and the fortresses

Where to stay:

I have always stayed at the Santa Teresa Hotel, a five star hotel that used to be a monastery. The hotel is located in the walled city, right next to the fortress. What I like the most about the Santa Teresa Hotel is the rooftop pool, lavish breakfast in the courtyard, service, coconut lemonades and the arepas de huevo every morning.

Other hotels I recommend:
Santa Clara Hotel and the Bastión Luxury Hotel.
Where to dine:

  1. La Vitrola Restaurant: Cuban inspired restaurant, they play live music in the evening. You must try the octopus, fish a la Diabla and langostinos.
  2. Club de Pesca: A seafood restaurant located on the waterfront. They also have live music and a great selection of wines. My parent’s favorite restaurant in Cartagena. It is an institution.
  3. Alma: Authentic Colombian cuisine.

You MUST make reservations in advance. The hotel concierge will help you with this.

Pregame at Alquimico, Cafe del Mar, the patio at the Santa Teresa Hotel, Aqua at the Silvia Tcherassi Hotel, The Harry Sasson bar at the Santa Teresa Hotel.

Where to fiesta:

My favorite nightclubs in Cartagena are La Movida, La Jugada, Babar, Havana and Tu Candela.
Usually Colombians order bottles, I would recommend Aguardiente Antioqueño (tapa azul, because it has less sugar).

Barú and Islas del Rosario

You must visit the islands! This would be a day trip. On this occasion I used Boats4U. They have all sized boats. There is a total of 27 islands, mostly privately owned. In the Cholón Island, I enjoyed multiple Piña coladas, lobster, oysters and my favorite, green mango with salt and lime. Make sure to take cash with you because they charge a 20% fee on credit cards (Colombians make business out of anything). This is known as the party island, all types of yachts come here from the mainland. If you don’t feel like being around a loud and wild environment, then I would recommend to skip the Cholón Island and go to Sport Barú Resort located in the Barú Island.
I highly recommend to take a trip to these islands, it is a magical experience. You get to see the natives, unique sea species and eat the freshest fish.
Tip: There will be people trying to sell you absolutely anything and offer you all types of services. Be smart and don’t get hustled.
Major tips for Cartagena:

-Do not drink water from the sink
-Stay in the walled city
-Carry cash with you but not too much
-If you are buying emeralds, be careful and don’t get scammed. I have a connection of a high quality emerald dealer if you pass by Bogotá
-Keep your passport in the hotel’s safe
-Try to not drink till you black out, having a hangover under the sun is not fun. But if you do have a Michelada (Colombian beer concoction) or go to the pharmacy, they will sell you anything without a prescription

On this occasion, Chicharron couldn't join but Caviar made sure to eat chicharron every day. So he was definitely present at all time.
